Inmates Get Creative In The Arts With The Prison Arts Collective вђ The Welcome to prisonarte, the site was originally created to showcase artwork created by che. he was incarcerated for over 13 years (from 2004 to 2018) in a colorado prison. we met and became the best of friends and married in 2012. i was very lucky to be the recipient of beautiful artwork that i cherish and hold dear to my heart. Escaping time: art from u.s. prisons exhibits and sells artworks created within prison walls nationwide. through art, we work to change the narrative and break the stereotype of what society imagines when thinking about the incarcerated. the art serves as a reminder that the men and women in prison are more than their charges. The prison art gallery is located a few blocks from the white house at 1600 k street nw, suite 501, washington, dc and is open seven days a week. last year 302 prisoner artists sent artwork or crafts, and 83 sold at least one work. the prisons foundation promotes its artwork very enthusiastically. One of the biggest pieces in the gallery is "cognitive thinking," by brooklyn based russell craig. some of the 15 foot work's canvas is made out of leather bags he buys from a current inmate.
