Easy Rainbow Cake Recipe From Scratch Preheat oven to 325 f. generously grease and flour 6 (9 inch cake pans.) i only had 3 pans so i had to bake in two rounds. in a large bowl cream together sugar and butter. mix in eggs until thoroughly incorporated. mix in vanilla extract, buttermilk and heavy cream. mix in half of the flour, baking powder, and salt. Prep. preheat the oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit and grease three 8 inch round cake pans with cooking spray. make the batter. in a large mixing bowl with an electric mixer, beat the cake mix, water, oil, and eggs on low speed for 30 seconds. then, continue to beat the batter on medium speed for 2 minutes. Add wet ingredients. add your wet ingredients (1 cup milk, ,½ cup butter, 2 large eggs,1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and ½ teaspoon almond extract) to the dry ingredients and mix on medium speed for about 2 minutes, or until smooth. make sure to scrape the sides and bottom of the mixing bowl. color the batter. I used red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. step 4. chill a portion of the batter. refrigerate 3 colors of the batter and pour the remaining 3 colors each into a separate baking pan. step 5. bake the cake. bake for 18 20 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the middle of the cake comes out clean.
