It does not matter, either way is correct! from the factory, the lower, pressure line of the 700 r4 goes to the bottom fitting on the radiator; and then the line from the top fitting of the radiator goes to the top, return line of the tranny. adding an external cooler, you would go from the lower tranny line to lower radiator fitting and from. Factory lines are steel trans to cooler, no rubber. bottom line from trans is to cooler, should be the bottom at rad. top is return. if cooler is in bottom tank, it shouldn't matter which is which. not sure which way factory hooked them up, perhaps someone else may know. brent. 5.3 4l60 '70 chevelle $$ clone restomod.

As already mentioned, the flow direction of the transmission cooler is such that the top hose attachment is the hotline, and the bottom one is the cold line. the hotline is the fluid returning from the transmission, and the cold line is the fluid returning into the transmission. however, that’s just a rule of thumb, so it could be the other.
